"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”-- Dr. SeussIf you don't, I hope you do by the end of the year. Every year I see some students start the year lukewarm, or whining about reading. Happily, see even more plug into reading by the end of the year. Yay! Sharing the joy of reading is the best part about teaching. Some of you are already there--reading is your thing. You rock! Those of you who aren't bibliophiles yet . . . well, there's still time, and that's why we're here! Last year we introduced the 40 Book Club at PJHS. In my class, you are expected to read approximately a book on your reading level, or on grade level, every week. By the end of the school year you will have read 40 books. I believe strongly there is nothing I, or any other teacher can teach you, that will do you more good, and educate you more effectively, then you reading a lot on your own. In fact, by reading, you learn how to educate yourself. At the end of the year, the 40-bookers celebrate with a pool party and pizza. It's a blast. |
