Latin Abbreviations


Latin abbreviations are sprinkled throughout texts we read everyday.

N.B. Be careful not to confuse "e.g." with "i.e."

Latin abbreviations are appropriate in footnotes, bibliographies, and informal writing (e.g., in parentheses).

In formal writing, use the English equivalent of the abbreviation.

    Many communication tools can be used to promote the launch of a new store, for example,flyers, press releases, radio announcements, and so on.

Because these Latin abbreviations are commonplace in the English language, it is not necessary to italicize them.
